Aishwarya Rai, the Indian beauty icon on the world stage, was born to Krishnaraj (marine engineer) and Vrida Rai (writer) of Bunt community in Mangalore. Her only brother is an engineer in the merchant navy. Soon after her birth, her family moved to Mumbai. She completed her high school from Arya Vidya Mandir in Santa Cruz. Then she completed her “HSC” studies from Ruparel College in Matunga.
The bright student was dreaming of a career in architecture when her stint with modeling made her the First runner up in the Miss India contest in 1994. She won the Miss World contest along with Sushmita Sen (Miss India 1994) becoming Miss Universe, and made the world stop and take notice. Since then, she has carved a coveted place for herself in Bollywood and Hollywood, too. She married Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan, son of Amitabh Bachchan, on April 20th, 2007.
