`American Idol` Fantasia released from hospital
Los Angeles: `American Idol` winner Fantasia Barrino has been released from the hosital and is now in recovery mode.
The 26-year-old singer was hospitalised after attempting to commit suicide by overdosing on sleeping pills and aspirin but was released from the hospital yesterday night, People reported online.
"She has been lifted up by the outpouring of love and support from her fans. She is more committed than ever to her daughter and her work because they are her heart, her soul and inspiration," said her manager Brian Dickens.
The overdose came just after she was named in a divorce petition following an 11-month relationship with a married man. Paula Cook alleged that Fantasia`s relationship with her husband Antwaun ended her marriage, claiming she had intimate video footage of the two together.
Fantasia had admitted having dated Cook "off and on for 11 months and believed Cook and his wife were separated.
She is now "heartbroken and is sorry for any pain she may have caused."
Fantasia was the winner of the third season of `American Idol`, in which Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson came seventh.
Fantasia was a single mother when she found fame on Idol, having given birth to her daughter Zion when she was just 16.
Her upbringing in North Carolina was tough; she dropped out of school as a teen after being raped by a classmate, leaving her "functionally illiterate".
