`Jersey Shore` star Ronnie charged with assault

Los Angeles: Ronald `Ronnie` Ortiz, star of the controversial American reality TV show `Jersey Shore` may face five years in prison after being charged with assault.

The 24-year-old has been charged with one count of third-degree assault for a fight that was caught on camera during filming of the hit series, reported a website.

A grand jury in Ocean County, New Jersey indicted the reality TV star after examining footage of the fight.

Ortiz was initially arrested in September last year after striking a man with a closed fist on camera.

The indictment says Ortiz "purposely or knowingly caused significant bodily injury to Stephen Izzo by striking in the face with a closed fist, causing him to lose consciousness".

Izzo has also filed a lawsuit against MTV and the Jersey Shore producers.
