`Slumdog Millionaire’ Dev Patel in campaign to promote ‘Britain abroad’

London: Dev Patel, who shot to fame with Danny Boyle’s ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, features in a television ad campaign organised by tourism agency VisitBritain, to promote Britain abroad.

The campaign invites viewers to join the ‘national mood of celebration’ surrounding Prince William and Kate Middleton’s April royal wedding, the Queen`s forthcoming Diamond Jubilee and the London 2012 Olympics.

It features some of the Hollywood biggies like Dame Judi Dench, Twiggy, Jamie Oliver and Rupert Everett promoting Britain abroad.

Apart from appearing in the commercial, these celebrities made a personal invitation to Britain from a location of choice in a series of short films to be posted on YouTube.

Dev Patel glorifies the ‘buzzing, energetic, boisterous’ Leicester Square in London, while Everett hails the capital``s theatre experience as ‘sharp, exciting and engaging’.

“With the eyes of the world on us, we have an unprecedented opportunity to showcase Britain,” the Telegraph quoted Sandie Dawe, chief executive of VisitBritain as saying.

The advertisements will be shown in key countries for potential visitors, ranging from established markets such as the US to emerging economies including China and India.
