`The Corn Is Green` actress Joan Lorring passes away at 88

Washington: Joan Lorring, who was nominated for an Oscar for her supporting role in 1945 film `The Corn Is Green`, has passed away at the age of 88.

According to reports, the actress died in the New York City suburb of Sleepy Hollow.

Lorring`s showbiz career began in radio, and her first American film was the 1944 MGM romantic war drama `Song of Russia`, while she later signed with Warner Bros. for the role of the scheming, trampish Bessie Watty, playing opposite Bette Davis, in ` The Corn Is Green`.
