18,000 hopefuls turn up for Simon Cowell`s ‘X Factor’ audition

London: Simon Cowell`s X Factor got off to a record-breaking start in the US, with more than 18,000 hopefuls turning up for the first auditions in Los Angeles.

Singers dreaming of landing a 5 million dollars recording contract made it the biggest talent show audition LA has ever seen, reports the Mirror.

Wannabes camped out to be sure of a place near the front of the line at the LA Sports Arena in a bid to take the first step to stardom.

Organisers confirmed singers as young as 12 and as old as 87 had shown off their vocal talents, with auditions continuing into the night.

Auditions continue in Miami, Newark, Seattle, Chicago and Dallas.
