New Delhi: Bollywood's Mr Perfectionist Khan—Aamir celebrates his 50th birthday today. As he touches the milestone today, the actor remained one of the most talked about B-Town celebrities in the year gone by. With 'PK' minting Rs 400 crore at the Box Office, and hitting the right note with the audiences—it also led to several controversies, making Aamir hog the maximum limelight.
Aamir stands proud with several prestigious awards top his credit. Although, the actor refrains from attending any of the Bollywood glamorous awards nights, he does have respect for the most coveted National Awards. The 50-year-old actor has four National Film Awards and seven Filmfare Awards. Aamir was honoured by the Government of India with the Padma Shri in 2003 and the Padma Bhushan in 2010.
He started off his career quite early in uncle Nasir Hussain's film 'Yaadon Ki Baaraat' in 1973. However, his first full-fledged role came in 1984 with off-beat film 'Holi'. It was 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' in 1988 opposite Juhi Chawla, which made him a heartthrob of millions. Girls loved his chocolate-boy looks and drooled over him.
After that there has been no looking back for the star. His films such as 'Dil', 'Raja Hindustani', 'Ghulam' and 'Sarfarosh' made him everyone's favourite in no time. His acting talent was well-accepted by all the industry. Later in his career, Aamir started off a production company, and there came 'Lagaan' in 2001.
Rakyesh Om Prakash Mehra's 'Rang De Basanti' in 2006 made Aamir a youth icon. He then ventured into direction with super successful 'Taare Zameen Par'--a film which talked about dyslexia for the first ever in a commercial film. His successful spree continued with films such as 'Ghajini' , '3 Idiots' and 'Dhoom: 3', which broke many records.
Aamir even featured in a superhit television show 'Satyamev Jayate' which dealt with evils prevalent in our society. His latest offing 'PK' has set the bar high for all upcoming films. Aamir is known for taking up projects which are unique and never-attempted-before. He is married to filmmaker Kiran Rao and has a son Azad Rao Khan. Aamir has striked a balance between his personal and professional life quite well. He was earlier married to Reena Dutta, but got separated later. He has two kids from her—Junaid and Ira.
