Amitabh Bachchan rejoices polio eradication from India

New Delhi: Bollywood`s biggest superstar, Amitabh Bachchan has lent his support to many causes. The `Do Boond Zindagi Ke` campaign is possibly the best known. The polio eradication campaign by the Government of India has been successful and the actor recently posted about his happiness on Twitter.The actor wrote:

T 1550 - Polio eradicated from India .. an 8 year campaign with the UNICEF ambassadorship ! Feel such accomplishment and joy !

India was declared polio free by WHO a couple of months ago and the even the polio endemic states like Bihar and UP have not reported any new case of polio for three consecutive years now. It is indeed a matter of great pride that such a stong drive initiated about half a century ago has become fruitful after so long. Apart from India, the other countries which were given polio-free certificates were Bangladesh, Bhutan, North Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, the Maldives and Myanmar.
