Amitabh Bachchan shoots at Somnath Temple

Mumbai: After completing his advertisement shoot with lions in Gir forest, megastar Amitabh Bachchan on Thursday arrived at the Somnath Temple, as part of final leg of his Gujarat Tourism campaign.

Clad in a white `dhoti-kurta`, the 67-year-old actor took part in the morning `aarti` and offered prayers to Lord Shiva. He later shot for the commercial in the famous temple.

"Somnath... attacked and ravaged by foreign invaders, but rebuilt as symbol of faith. Here now... at 5 am it looks divine and most spiritual. An arrow on the temple points to the South Pole. From here no land or structure obstructs this line to the pole," wrote Bachchan on his Twitter page while he was at the temple.

This would be the final session of the Bollywood icon`s first phase of visit to the state, sources in Junagadh district administration said, adding that Big B`s second visit has not yet been finalised.

Bachchan, who has been in the state for a week to promote Gujarat Tourism, will leave for Mumbai tomorrow.

Meanwhile, at least eight media persons were detained near the temple where the actor was busy shooting, police said.

According to police, the media persons, mostly cameramen, were detained as the authorities did not want the ad footage to leak out. They were taken to a nearby police station and later released, police added.

Bachchan, who the Brand Ambassador of the IIFA awards, is not attending the gala event this year in Colombo due to his shooting schedule in Gujarat.
