London: Arnold Schwarzenegger’s estranged wife Maria Shriver has revealed that she is heartbroken over revelations that her actor hubby of 25 years fathered a love child with a member of their household staff 10 years ago.
The former Governor of California made the bombshell admission a week after the couple announced they had separated after 25 years of marriage.
The 63-year-old only told his wife about the child after he left office in January - leading to the couple``s split.
It is believed the member of staff in question, who has not be named, retired in January after worked for the Schwarzenegger family for more than 20 years.
“This is a painful and heartbreaking time,” the Daily Mail quoted her as saying.
“As a mother, my concern is for the children. I ask for compassion, respect and privacy as my children and I try to rebuild our lives and heal. I will have no further comment,” she added.
In a statement released to the LA Times, Schwarzenegger said: “After leaving the governor’s office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago.
“I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family.
“There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologised to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry.
“I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time. While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not,” the statement added.
