B-town chick Priyanka Chopra tries her hand at poetry

Mumbai: Bollywood diva Priyanka Chopra is a perfect combination of beauty with brains, for a very few people know that the svelte beauty is a budding poetess.

Recently, at women’s award show, Priyanka Chopra paid glorious tribute to three senior Bollywood actresses – Saira Banu, Hema Malini and Madhuri Dixit, by writing a couplet for each of them.

Apparently, Priyanka wanted to do more than song-and-dance routine at the show. A source confirmed, “Priyanka was not happy with the script given by the organisers. Time was running out and the show was about to start. So she sat with Rowena Baweja, the conceptualiser of the awards and penned down shayiris for all the three B-town divas. In just about an hour, Priyanka put the shayiris together. She also did the voice over for the audio-visuals."

A source close to the actress said, “Priyanka loves writing shayiris and has been writing them for a long time. Recently, she has rediscovered Rumi and Ghalib. Over the past year or so Priyanka has been quietly writing poetry when she feels like it. She doesn`t talk much about it as it is a very private part of her life.”

Priyanka`s friend added, “Priyanka hasn`t had much of a chance in the past few years to pen her poetry because she`s been working hard. She`s doing films and endorsements and it is difficult to pen sensitive stuff with so many things happening. This is the first time that she has come out and recited the couplets on stage.”

Here are some of Priyanka`s couplets for Saira, Hema and Madhuri:

Saira Banu

Aap aurat ka woh roop hain jo shairon ko majboor kar deta hai
Ki aurat ke baare mein
Usse kali keh ke, phool kehke, mukhatib kiya jaaye
Kashmir ki kali

Hema Malini

Kehta hain jo khwaab nahin dekhte,
Woh zindagi nahin jitey,
Aur khwaab tabhi khubsurat hotey hain,
Jab unmein khwabon ki mallika rehti hain

Madhuri Dixit

Ek aisi abhinetri jo kuch na keh kar apne andaaz se sab kuch keh jaati hain,
Ek do teen ki ginti aap se hi shuru hoti hain aur aap pe hi khatam ho jaati hain
