Bollywood producer-director Raj Kanwar passes away

Mumbai: Bollywood producer, director and writer Raj Kanwar passed away in Singapore today. Raj, who was suffering from a kidney ailment, had gone to Singapore for a kidney transplant operation but he died before the surgery. His body is being flown to India for the last rites.

Raj Kanwar helmed hits like ‘Deewana’, ‘Judaai’, ‘Andaaz’, ‘Jeet’, ‘Daag – The Fire’, ‘Laadla’ and ‘Jaan’ and ‘Sadiyaan.’ He also produced films like ‘Ithihaas’, ‘Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke’ and ‘Humko Deewana Kar Gaye.’

Bollywood actors took to Twitter to express their grief on the sad demise of Raj Kanwar. Abhishek Bachchan tweeted: “Terribly saddened by the passing of Raj Kanwar. Was the 1st person to sign me after Refuggee. He made Aishwarya and my 1st film together. Dhai Akshar Prem Ke. Was a lovely man, always happy, smiling and joking. Have wonderful wonderful memories of him. Now no more. Thank you so much Raj ji for the memories. I will miss you.(sic)”

Shah Rukh Khan tweeted, “My friend raj kanwarji passed away. The impermanence of life, makes one feel so helpless. May his soul rest in peace.Aisi Deewangi..miss u sir(sic)”

Priyanka Chopra tweeted, “Saddens me so much,my 1st director Raj Kanwar passed away..RIP Rajji..U believed in me when even I didn't.Andaaz taught me everything I know.(sic)”

Madhur Bhandarkar tweeted, “Sad to hear about director Raj Kanwar's demise. RIP(sic)”
