New Delhi: Reports of Chitrangada Singh and her golfer husband of 12-years Jyoti Randhawa filing a mutual consent divorce in a Gurgaon court created a flutter today but the Bollywood actress denied any such move.
Chitrangada, 37, confirmed that she had gone to the Gurgaon court with her husband but claimed it was for an internal settlement of a property dispute.
Media reports had said that Chitrangada and Randhawa, 41, had filed divorce plea in the family court on Friday following irreconcilable differences between the couple.
The reports suggested that the actress was facing a tough time meeting her commitments in Mumbai and looking after their 5-year-old son Zorawar. Randhawa wants Chitrangada to spend more time with their son as he is away for a considerable part of the year for his golf tournaments, they said.
When contacted, Chitrangada dismissed speculation over her divorce.
"It is not true. We were at the court for the property dispute, an internal settlement. And there were speculations because of that," Chitrangada told reporters.
A source close to her said that the actress and her family were deeply disturbed over constant speculation about her marriage.
Chitrangada and Randhawa`s visit to the court has been blown out of proportion and she too has not been contacted to verify the news, the source said.
The couple tied the knot in 2001. There were reports earlier that their marriage was on the rocks but the actress had dubbed it as baseless
The model-turned-actress made a successful debut in Bollywood with Sudhir Mishra`s critically acclaimed film `Hazaaron Khwaishen Aisi` in 2003.
She took a break from acting from 2005 to 2008. In 2008, she made her comeback with a leading role opposite Sanjay Suri in director Onir`s romantic-comedy, `Sorry Bhai`.
Chitrangada officially forayed into commercial cinema with Rohit Dhawan`s `Desi Boyz` opposite Akshay Kumar in 2011 and then followed it up with an item number in Shirish Kunder`s `Joker` last year.
The dusky beauty was last seen in `I, Me Aur Main` opposite John Abraham.
Jyoti was among the world`s top 100 golfer several times between 2004 and 2009. In 2002, he finished top on the Asian Tour money list. He has 10 professional tour wins, eight of them on Asia.
