Court gagging the truth, says Shiney`s wife Anupam Spicezee Bureau

Mumbai: Shiney Ahuja, who has been relentlessly fighting allegations of raping his maid in 2009, has been finding support from his spouse, Anupam all through out. The actor’s wife has said that the evidence that proves that her husband is innocent has been overlooked by the trial court.

Moreover, she also maintains that the case has a lot of ambiguity from the prosecutor’s end.

Shiney was released almost a month back and has been enjoying freedom of sorts. But his impending appeal against his seven-year jail term following conviction has been like a thorn in his flesh.

Anupam wonders why the evidence that proves Shiney is innocent is not being considered. The couple, while talking to a daily had once said that proofs like DNA tests and phone call records have not been accepted by the police. And on the contrary undependable data was handed over to the court.

While talking to the daily, Anupam said, “Why did the police not call for the records of calls admittedly made by the maid on the day and time of the alleged incident -- 3.20 pm to 3.40 pm on June 14, 2009. She had herself said that she was on the phone with a man she knew. The rape allegation would have been proved false, but the investigating officer from Oshiwar police station said he did not think it necessary to call for these records".

The wife of the troubled actor believes that the phone record of the maid is goon enough an evidence that should substantiate all false allegations.

"By suppressing the phone records, they were gagging the truth. If the government could fast track the rape trial, we are hoping that the appeal is also fast tracked," Anupam added.

Shiney Ahuja who was arrested for raping his maid. In a twist that is typical of our society, he became a celebrity after the episode and claimed he was victimised because of his fame. His innocence is based on the logic of “Why would he do that to a maid when he could get anyone?” At one point he mentioned that it was consensual, which completely negates the argument of ‘why a maid’. Strauss-Kahn too has said it was consensual. This is a serious matter but there is some cause for amusement. Are we to understand that the chattel’s permission is sought regarding whether she would like to cohabit with her master? It imbues the scenario with an egalitarian hue. In fact, there are several instances where such women are bought over. It is seen as a benediction and the symbiotic aspect clearly indicates the nurturing element. - Rizvi - Mumbai, Oshiwara
Why is the media not publishing the interview of the rape victim or of the maid who took the victim to the Police station or of the Guptas who went with the maid to the police station? Anupam and Shiney have been changing their statements from day1 till today. Please refer to initial statements by Shiney and Anupam... they agreed that sex took place but it was not Rape... now they are completely denying the sex !!! Anyway most of the rape cases are not even reported in India... and if media will start helping the criminals then people will stop trusting the law and order. Please be unbiased and help the judiciary and the victims. - Ashok Patil - Mumbai
