Soccer star David Beckham has asked his fans for a special birthday gift, footballs for underprivileged children.

London: Soccer heartthrob David Beckham has asked his fans for a special birthday gift, footballs for underprivileged children.

The sportsman, who will turn 36 on 2 May, has asked his followers to shell out USD 33 to purchase footballs for children around the world who cannot afford one, reported a website. The footballer, who has three sons with former `Spice Girls` member Victoria Beckham, insists every child should have the opportunity to play his favourite sport. "Often kids have to play football (soccer) with cans and discarded rubbish or they`ve nothing at all and miss out totally. Now I`m almost 36 and I`m asking everyone to help put this right," said the footballer. Beckham is expecting his fourth child with Victoria, and this time it will be a girl. PTI
