London: Robert B Sherman passed away in London on March 5 after a protracted illness. He was 86.
His hit songs for Disney, written with brother Richard, 83, include ‘Supercalifragilistic-expialidocious’ and ‘A Spoonful Of Sugar’ from Mary Poppins.
The brothers also composed favourites like ‘I Wanna Be Like You’ and ‘Trust In Me’ from ‘The Jungle Book’ and ‘Truly Scrumptious’ from ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’.
Robert’s death was announced by his son Jeffrey Sherman.
“His dear heart finally slowed to a stop when he could fight no more,” the Daily Express quoted him as saying.
“He wanted to bring happiness to the world and, unquestionably, he succeeded,” he added.
The Sherman brothers had a 10-year association with Walt Disney, during which time they composed more than 150 songs.
They won two Oscars for ‘Mary Poppins’ - best score and best song for ‘Chim Chim Cheree’.
