Elton John in the race for father of the year title

London:Pop icon Elton John and his partner David Furnish have become the first ever gay parents to be nominated for the title of Celebrity Dad of the Year.

The 63-year-old Grammy winning hitmaker and his long-term partner welcomed their first child, a son named Zachary, through a surrogate mother in December last year. Other nominees include footballers Wayne Rooney and David Beckham, `Mysterious Girl` hitmaker Peter Andre, `Take That` singer Gary Barlow and comedian Jonathan Ross, reported a website. The `Rocket Man` hitmaker and Furnish had the baby in Los Angeles and both contributed to the conception of Zachary through a process called `mixing`. Their unconventional parenting methods have grabbed headlines since the birth of their son. When Zachary was just a few days old his famous parents bought him an apartment worth USD 2 million where he lived with two round-the-clock nannies. His surrogate mother`s breast milk was flown to Los Angeles for the first four months after Zachary`s birth. PTI
