Family, friends bid final goodbye to Dara Singh

It rained pitter- patter and it seemed like the sky has opened up in pain as the whole of Bollywood gathered to pay tribute to `Rustam-e-Hind` Dara Singh, as he made his way to the heavenly abode on Thursday evening leaving his fans deeply saddened.

Mumbai: It rained pitter- patter and it seemed like the sky has opened up in pain as the whole of Bollywood gathered to pay tribute to `Rustam-e-Hind` Dara Singh, as he made his way to the heavenly abode on Thursday evening leaving his fans deeply saddened. Dara Singh’s body looked even sturdier than in his last days. His countenance wore the same warm million-dollar Dara smile till the end of his life. Thousands of people gathered outside his house to witness their favourite star`s final journey. His large frame was placed on a palanquin and taken in procession on a truck which was decorated with flowers. Thousands of people stopped whatever they were doing and came from all over Ville Parle to attend the procession. Almost the entire Bollywood, assembled to pay him tribute at his home `Dara Villa`. Dara Singh Ji’s was taken for cremation thereafter. Seen at his home, paying their last respect to the actor were Abhishek Bachchan, Tabu, Sanjay Khan, Farah Naaz, Anu Malik, Raza Murad, Mahie Gill, Jatin Pandit, Dolly Bindra, Kapil Sharma, Mink, Surendra Pal, Arjun, Arun Bakshi, Ranjit and many more. Actor Abhishek Bachchan, who also came to pay his last respects to Dara Singh, called him, the "true hero of Indian cinema." A cardiac problem led to Dara Singh’s hospitalisation at the Kokilaben Hospital July 7. Thereafter, his health only deteriorated further - his kidneys suffered malfunction and caused damage to his brain. Dara Singh is survived by his wife and six children - three sons and three daughters. One of his sons, Vindu Dara Singh, is a known name in showbiz. "Angel now gone to shine like a star up above," Vindu told reporters after his father`s death.
