FIR filed against KJ Yesudas for remarks against women clad in jeans

An FIR has reportedly been filed against legendary singer and Padma Vibhushan awardee KJ Yesudas regarding his statement about women wearing jeans.

New Delhi: An FIR has reportedly been filed against legendary singer and Padma Vibhushan awardee KJ Yesudas regarding his statement about women wearing jeans.

The Kerala-born singer on Thursday courted controversy after saying that he resented women who wore jeans.

The 74-year-old singer during a Gandhi Jayanti funtion had said that women should not cause trouble to others (men) by wearing jeans. He also said that what needs to be covered should be covered and added that when women wear jeans, men get tempted to look beyond it (jeans).

Criticising Yesudas for his remarks, Chairperson of National Commission for Women, Lalitha Kumaramangalam, today said that it was very unfortunate that such an "unethical" comment was made by the singer.

"It is unfortunate that such a statement has been made by a man who has been so much in public life, whatever may be his personal view. There is nothing illegal in it but it was unethical," Kumaramangalam said.

KJ Yesudas has won several awards including the prestigious Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan for his contribution in the field of music.
