New Delhi: The original `baby doll` of Bollywood Karisma Kapoor, who made her acting début at a tender age of seventeen in 1991 with `Prem Qaidi`, turns 40 today.
Born to actress Babita and Randhir Kapoor—Karisma ruled the Box Office for almost a decade before she took a sabbatical from work post marriage. The blue-eyed girl of Kapoor `khandaan` initially faced a lot of hardships while convincing her family to make acting her professional choice.
It had been reported that the famous first family of B-Town refrained their womenfolk from working in films. It was this diktat that Karisma broke and how! It was this young and ever-energetic actress`s big step which helped her baby sister Kareena Kapoor Khan to make her way into Bollywood without any obstacle.
Lolo (her pet name) has been credited for various films by the critics. Early in her career, Karisma received the prestigious National Award for `Best supporting actress` in `Dil To Pagal Hai`. Not only was she revered by the who`s who of the industry, but was also credited for giving a plethora of commercially successful films.
Karisma showed her acting prowess in Shyam Benegal`s `Zubeidaa` and Hrithik Roshan, Jaya Bachchan starrer `Fiza`. Both the films fetched her `Best actress` trophies at Filmfare awards. Being regarded as one of the best dancers that industry has ever seen, the 40-year-old actress is also loved by her fans for her extremely elegant dressing sense.
Lolo` personal life has, however, been subject to a lot of media scrutiny. The actress got married to Delhi-based industrialist Sanjay Kapur and has two kids named Samaira and Kiaan Raj Kapoor from the marriage. Recently, the news of them getting divorced surfaced, putting an end to the year-long speculation.
On the eve of her birthday, we wish Karisma a very happy and fun-filled year and hope to see the talented actress on silver screen once again!
