Happy to be alive after cancer treatment: Puerto Rican singer

San Juan: Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Draco Rosa said that he`s "happy to be alive" after undergoing six months of treatment for cancer.

The composer of top Ricky Martin hits like "Maria" and "La Copa de la Vida" (The Cup of Life) told the daily El Nuevo Dia that he is being treated at Dr. Stanislaw R. Burzynski`s clinic in Houston, Texas.

Draco said that he has discovered "a thousand things" about his character and his personality that have changed his life and made him understand it better, but preferred not go into details.

The artist, set to turn 42 next week, said that when he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin`s lymphoma he decided to seek treatment from Burzynski, who eschews radiation and chemotherapy in favour of another approach.

Rosa said he knew that Burzynski`s treatment has been criticised for the kind of medicines used, since they have supposedly not been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.

He said that his wife Angela has been "incredible and amazing" throughout his fight against the illness.

He also said that he goes almost every day to different Catholic churches near his home or near the school attended by his son Redamo.

The Puerto Rican artist performed for the last time in Puerto Rico March 27, 2010, when he embarked on his "Vagabundo por el Mundo" (Worldwide Vagabond) tour after four months out of action with rheumatic fever.
