Mumbai: Actors and filmmakers from the Hindi film industry had whole-heartedly welcomed the Supreme Court ruling November last year allowing women make-up artists and hairdressers to become members of professional associations. Hrithik Roshan took to Twitter to welcome Charu Khanna, the first female makeup artiste in the film industry. Hrithik’s tweet read:

The SC slammed the film industry for not hiring female make-up artists the Supreme Court in November last year and quashed the provision which put restriction on women make-up artists in film industry. The apex court bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra also struck down the provision of the make-up artists and hairdressers association that mandated a person to be a resident of a particular place for five years to entitle him/her to become member of the association. The court order came on a petition by Charu Khurana who had challenged these two clauses of the association as being discriminatory to women. The Supreme Court termed the employing preferences of the film industry, which until then only employed male makeup artists as, "unconstitutional, illegal and the worst kind of gender discrimination".
