I was ahead of time in being multi-talented: Sophie

Mumbai: A video jockey (VJ), singer and actress -- Sophie Choudry can dabble in a lot of things at once, but she feels that she has been "a little ahead of time" in being multi-talented.
"When six years back I was a number one VJ, `Ek pardesi` was a hit, `Pyaar ke side effects` was a superhit. Then people used to ask me which one (singing, acting or veejaying) would you choose. But today people like Farhan Akhtar, Ayushmann (Khurrana) are celebrated for being multi-talented. So may be I was a little ahead of time," Sophie said. She started off as a pop singer in 2000 with her all-girl band Sansara and later became a VJ while continuing with her singing, besides small acting assignments. Sophie is best known for her songs ‘Habibi’, ‘Le le mera dil’, "Ghar aaya mera pardesi’ and ‘Ek pardesi mera dil le gaya’. She has just launched a remixed version of 1975 song ‘Hungama ho gaya’, originally sung by Asha Bhosle. She says composer duo Vishal-Shekhar convinced her to give it a shot. "This is a remake of an old song. I was sitting with Vishal-Shekhar and I was complaining about how original songs are not being played much. They said, `You are so successful with remixes and you should do one more`. I said no, but then they said, `Everyone is doing it, even in films, so why don`t you do it`," the 31-year-old said here at the video launch of the number. Sophie says she has tried to make it as new age as possible. "I wrote new lyrics, changed the melody, set up a contemporary arrangement, very peppy, very clubby. If you will compare the song with the original, the chorus is the same, but other things are different," she said. IANS
