New Delhi: Angelina Jolie – who recently underwent double mastectomy after learning that she carried the BRCA1 gene which leads to an increased risk in breast and ovarian cancer – made her first public appearance at Brad Pitt`s zombie thriller ` World War Z’ premiere at a Central London Cinema on Sunday.
Looking ravishing in a black gown, the actress was happy and overwhelmed to have received support from her friends, family and fans.
The 37-year-old actress – who completed her three months of medical procedure on April 27, 2013 - lost her mother Marcheline Bertrand, 56, to ovarian cancer in 2007.
Jolie opted for mastectomy because the BRCA1 gene put her at an 87 percent risk of developing breast cancer.
This step drew appreciation from over the world. Madhur Bhandarkar took to Twitter to write “I bow to the courage and strength that Angelina Jolie has shown by talking about breast cancer and encouraging the women world over to fight it.”
As for Brad Pitt, he proved to be the man every girl dreams of. “I am fortunate to have a partner, Brad Pitt, who is so loving and supportive. So to anyone who has a wife or girlfriend going through this, know that you are a very important part of the transition. Brad was at the Pink Lotus Breast Center, where I was treated, for every minute of the surgeries. We managed to find moments to laugh together. We knew this was the right thing to do for our family and that it would bring us closer. And it has,” Jolie said.
According to sources, Brad was Angelina’s primary support in the weeks surrounding her mastectomy and subsequent reconstructive surgery. The 49-year-old actor is said to have done everything he could to keep things secret and protect his fiancée.
Sadly, just a few weeks after Jolie’s brave revelation she lost her aunt to breast cancer, who had earlier slipped into come due to the disease.
However, Angelina had to miss her aunt's funeral as the ‘World War Z’ premiere fell on the same day.
Here’s a big shout out to Jolie for her courage and Brad Pitt for his support.
