Mumbai: The last rites of Bollywood actress Jiah Khan, who hung herself on Monday night, have been performed at the Santa Cruz graveyard.
While Jiah's sister and her mother were inconsolable, her boyfriend, Sooraj Pancholi, who came to bid her a final farewell, was in tears too.
Celebrities like Riteish Deshmukh, Kiran Rao, Siddartha Mallya, Sophie Chaudhary, Urvashi Dholakia, and Prem Chopra came to her residence to pay their final respects.
Jiah was said to be under depression after coming to know of Suraj`s new love interest, who supplied jewellery to the Pancholis. But according to Jiah`s mother, the actress was depressed after having been rejected at an audition in Hyderabad. She wanted to pursue a career in interior designing as she wasn`t happy with the way her film career graph was taking a plunge.
"Suraj and Jiah spoke over telephone a number of times Monday, with the last call being made at 22.53 PM which lasted for two minutes. Soon thereafter, Jiah hanged herself. Post-mortem examination revealed the incident took place between 11 pm and 11.30 pm", sources said.
"Jiah was said to be very possessive about Suraj. Last night they exchanged text messages on their cell phones. Suraj also sent her a bouquet which she did not accept," they added.
The 25-year-old actress had a grand debut in Ram Gopal Varma’s controversial flick ‘Nishabd’ starring Amitabh Bachchan.
‘He is 60. She is 18. Some love stories are never meant to be understood.’ So ran the tag line of Ram Gopal Varma’s shocking film ‘Nishabd’. Back in 2007, RGV’s handiwork left several people shocked and many other grappling with words. Jiah Khan was noted for her raw sex appeal, her prettiness and her praiseworthy acting.
After ‘Nishabd’, Jiah Khan was seen in a supporting role alongside Aamir Khan and Asin in ‘Ghajini’. The actress played an innocent medical student who, in a twist of events, gets involved in the life of a business tycoon suffering from short term amnesia. Jiah’s performance in the film was noted and appreciated.
In 2010, Jiah Khan was seen across another superstar of the Hindi film industry – Akshay Kumar. In ‘Housefull’, the actress garnered mostly positive responses for her role.
Jiah Khan had been associated with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and was an ambassador for the same. With her campaign, the actress had been successful in helping ban glass coated manja for kite flying that is responsible for killing and decapitating thousands of birds each year at the kite flying festival in India. Khan had also been associated with a campaign for the banning of the killing of stray dogs by leading a debate and walk to save dogs in Mumbai.
