Amritsar: Famous Sufi singers Padma Shri Puranchand Wadali and his brother Pyarelal were on Sunday stopped at the Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport at Amritsar after they were found to be carrying live ammunition in their luggage.
The Wadalis conveniently managed to pass through a couple of CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) check-points before being stopped. The 14 live bullets of licensed pistol of Pyarelal Wadali were kept in a bag to be hand carried inside the plane. The bullets for 32-bore revolver were detected during security check before boarding the plane.
The duo was scheduled to reach New Delhi for a show. The CISF personnel recovered the bullets and later allowed the Wadali brothers to go to the capital.
Wadali brothers, however, said that the bullets were accidentally carried in the bag, whereas the revolver was kept at home.
Amritsar's International Airport is notably considered to be one of the hypersensitive airports of the country as far security is concerned.
The noted brothers, who are famous for their sufi songs, have been summoned by the Commandant on Monday.
However, no FIR has so far been lodged against them for carrying ammunitions.
