London: It has emerged that a man, accused of stalking Madonna, attempted to commit suicide by setting his cell at Wandsworth prison, South London, on fire.

However, two prison officers rescued Grzegorz Matlok, 29 who was about to be engulfed, as they dragged him to safety but one officer was treated in hospital for smoke inhalation, reports a daily.

Jail officials are now investigating how he got flammable materials into his cell.

Matlok was charged for breaking into the singer`s 10-million-pounds mansion in Marylebone, West London, in March.
