Mumbai: Veteran actor and film maker Manoj Kumar dedicated Maharashtra Government`s Raj Kapoor lifetime achievement award to martyrs of the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement.
"I am dedicating the award to martyrs of the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement," Kumar said at the 47th Marathi Film awards function at the Gateway of India here last night.
"When I was told about the award, I asked myself whether I deserved the award. My inner voice said no. After a lot of thinking I knew who deserved it most," Kumar said.
"This award is dedicated to the 105 marytrs who laid down their lives for our state," he said.
Two awards were given out in the name of film legends Raj Kapoor and V Shantaram.
Ashutosh Gowariker was given the Raj Kapoor award (youth).
"It is an honour which gives me double happiness. The award means the audience has appreciated me," Gowariker said.
The V Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award went to senior actress Asha Kale.
"I started my career with a Shantaram Productions` play Shiv Shambho. Getting an award in his name completes my career cycle," she said.
