Michael Douglas admits to lying about type of cancer to protect career

Washington: Michael Douglas has confessed that he publicly lied about suffering from throat cancer when in fact he had tongue cancer, to save his Hollywood career.

During an appearance on ITV`s `This Morning` show, the veteran actor explained to fellow actor Samuel L. Jackson that when he was diagnosed with the debilitating disease, he was about to go on a big tour for his movie `Wall Street` and didn`t want to cancel it, Newsmax.com reported.

The `Basic Instinct` star asserted that he was planning to announce his tongue cancer and continue with the tour, but doctors advised him otherwise.

His doctors believed that he shouldn`t reveal that he had a disease with such a negative prognosis on the eve of a massive press tour, asserted Douglas, who is currently separated from wife Catherine Zeta-Jones.
