Mumbai gang-rape case: Shah Rukh Khan voices his angst

Zee Media Bureau/ Gayatri Sankar Mumbai: The August 22 Mumbai gang-rape case of a photojournalist in broad day light by a group of five men at the Shakti Mills compound near the Mahalaxmi railway station, has agonised both men and women across all strata of the Indian society. The dastardly act committed by the five men is a harsh reminder that women aren’t safe in their own country, especially after the infamous December 16 Delhi gang-rape case of a 23-year-old paramedical student. People from all walks of life vented out their angst against the growing sexual harassment of women in the country. One of them was Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, who took to Twitter to express his views on possible deterrents that could curb crime against women. Here’s taking a look at what SRK had to say: “1. Punishing those responsible for this heinous crime is 1 part of the deterrent. The 2nd, far greater deterrent is to change our own mindsets 2. To educate our boys in a manner that the respect for women becomes implicit in their natures and they begin to understand... 3...that the objectification of women is equally disrespectful to their so called manhood as it is to the women they objectify. While the nation wants the harshest of punishments to be served to the rapists, many victims of crimes of such magnitude are still awaiting justice (sic)”. Here’s hoping the culprits are brought to book, for justice delayed is justice denied.
