No Chhedi Singh in `Dabangg 2`

Mumbai: Here’s some really bad news for all those fans of Chhedi Singh. Sonu Sood, who essayed the iconic character will not be a part of the sequel to 2010 blockbuster `Dabangg `.

Producer Arbaaz Khan had earlier had a fall out with `Dabangg` director Abhinav Kashyap and decided not to repeat him in the film’s franchise. Then recently, Khan ousted the technicians who formed an integral part of the super hit film from the sequel. And now, Sonu aka Chhedi has been removed from the film that is slated to go on floors next year.

Reportedly, `Wanted` and `Singham` baddie Prakash Raj will be introduced as a comic villain in the film. Chhedi Singh too had similar characteristics. So when Sonu realised, Chhedi Singh would loose his charm if there is another character in the film similar to his shade, he decided to opt out of the film.

Talking to a daily, a source said, “Sonu was meant to be in the sequel in the role of the `main` baddie. He would have had his shot again during the Munni Badnaam Hui kind of number. His scenes allowed him a chance to showcase his six-pack abs and fight with Salman in the climax. But he would definitely have less screen time because Prakash was being introduced as a comic villain, shades that his own character Cheddi Singh showed in the original.”

When news of `Dabangg 2` was doing the rounds, Sonu was the only choice for the sole villain in the film.

“Sonu and Arbaaz hugged and shook hands. All seemed well but we hear that the film`s original baddie wasn`t one bit kicked about sharing space with the Wanted and Singham villain. Sonu and Arbaaz have apparently been having discussions on this subject even till the time we go to press. However Sonu who has been the only villain in Dabangg, in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu is certainly not in favour of having his own role diluted,” the source added.

Now whether or not Prakash Raj is able to recreate Chhedi Singh’s magic on screen, is for us to wait and watch.
