London: Legendary radio personality Casey Kasem, who was battling Lowry body disease, a progressive form of dementia, has passed away at the age of 82.

The famous radio host died on Sunday at a Washington hospital, where he was being treated, suggest reports.

"Early this Father`s Day morning, our dad Casey Kasem passed away surrounded by family and friends.

Even though we know he is in a better place and no longer suffering, we are heartbroken.

"Thank you for all your love, support and prayers. The world will miss Casey Kasem, an incredible talent and humanitarian; we will miss our Dad," his daughter, Kerri Kasem tweeted.

Kasem, in the recent months, had been at the centre of a legal battle between his wife of 34 years, Jean Kasem, 59, and his three adult children to gain control over his care.

Kerri was eventually granted conservatorship in May and he received care in Washington state until his death.

Kasem was a staple in American homes for decades, co-creating and hosting the music countdown programs `American Top 40`, `American Top 20` and `American Top 10`, and also voicing several characters on popular animated shows including Batman, Scooby-Doo, Josie and the Pussycats and more.
