New Delhi: Veteran actress Rati Agnihotri has reportedly filed a domestic violence complaint in Worli police station in Mumbai.
According to a leading daily, a case has been filed under sections 350, 323, 506, 498a. The actress submitted her statement to the police saying that her husband Anil Virwani brutally assaulted her on March 7. She left the premises after giving her statement.
Accordind to PTI, S Jaykumar, deputy police commissioner (zone-III) said, "Rati Agnihotri, who married Anil Virwani in 1985 filed complaint against him today saying he had mentally tortured her besides assaulting her physically."
"A case has been registered against Virwani under IPC sections 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 350 (use of criminal force) and 506 (criminal intimidation)," said Jaykumar.
The reports also said that the 54-year-old actress, who stays in south Mumbai had been suffering the violence for a long time, according to her complaint.
"She did not mention any specific reason as to why her husband tortured and thrashed her," Jaykumar said, adding "We will investigate the case and appropriate action would be initiated."
Police sources said that Agnihotri had orally complained to police on March 7, showing abrasions on hands due to the alleged beating by her husband.
Virwani's business was not doing well and this could be one of the reasons for him to lose his temper, police said.
Rati is married to businessman and architect Anil Virwani since the last 30 years after which she left the industry. The couple have one son Tanuj Virwani, who recently made his big screen debut with 'Purani Jeans'.
She has acted in over 10 languages and was one of the most sought after actresses in 1980s. Rati made a comeback to the industry with Kajol's 'Kuch Khatti Kuchh Meethi'.
