Los Angeles: Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe, who is making his directorial debut with ‘The Water Diviner’, says he has witnessed his father performing dowsing.

"Basically a water diviner is an individual who is able feel the vibration of water under the surface either through wood or metal and sometimes through their own hand. I know it kind of sounds like strange thing but I witnessed my dad do this when I was 14," Crowe said in a statement.

Crowe plays the titular Australian farmer who journeys to Turkey four years after the World War I battles at Gallipoli in search of his three missing soldier sons. Inspired by true historical events, the film was shot in Istanbul's bustling markets and in the glorious Blue Mosque.

The film, an adaptation of the book ‘The Water Diviner’ written by Andrew Anastasios, is set to release in India on April 24.
