Salman Khan could face 10 years in jail for ‘culpable homicide’ Zeenews Bureau

Mumbai: Salman Khan could face ten years in jail if convicted for ‘culpable homicide’, not amounting to murder, after a Mumbai court ruled that the star would be tried for a hit-and-run case that involved him in 2002, according to reports.

The incident in question which happened over 10 years ago saw Salman’s SUV crash into a bakery in Mumbai injuring four and killing one person sleeping on the pavement.

While the trial started in 2005, the Mumbai police asked for firmer charges to be put against the ‘Dabangg’ star in 2011 as he was just being tried for rash and negligent driving.

Salman will reportedly have to attend court on March 11 where he will be formally charged after a judge accepted that the evidence against him is enough to charge the massively popular superstar for culpable homicide which, if proven, could carry a maximum of up to 10 years in prison.

He must be punished. because he killed someone and hurt people! But it was (I had read ) .. negligence .. not intentional! And it should be calculated, what he has done good! That is also important for a fair judgment! - Maria Paschulke - Germany
I wonder why not other established film artists like Amitabh Bachchan and his family is not involved in such mishaps!! The reasons may be simple which makes a hell lot of differences between a successfully "RESPONSIBLE MARRIED COUPLE" and a "AGED MARRIAGEABLE BACHELOR". Needless to explain and define about these two extremities because for a sensible person it is self explanatory. However, one thing is common for both these extremely different group of people ---"MONEY POWER"!! It can change the entire show forever. Examples are Bhopal Gas Tragedy (The Cardinal of Union Carbide was safely deported from India by the erstwhile Prime Minister of India); Sikh Riots post Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's killing; the recent multi-crore 2G Spectrum Scam which involved A. Raja and also Kanimozhi (they got bail which they were not getting before---"CORRUPT THE JUDICIARY SYSTEM" by throwing tasty peanuts to them. All these sorts of "hush-hush" affair goes behind the scenes which the media are not allowed to publish ("TEHELKA" was always being intercepted and their operations being disturbed in their "Investigative Journalism" at every step by the NDA Government). There are many such mishaps which usually goes unnoticed. The current UPA Government must have thought that everything will go wrong if it won't save A. Raja and Kanimozhi. If the ruling party concludes that a particular personality caught red handed is no more required, it throws them in the waste bin. Nowadays, the latest trends are like killing RTI Activists mysteriously. No investigations are carried out for such killings. - JNANENDRA KISHORE - India
I think drinking and driving itself should be as good as culpable homicide, cause you know you will kill someone if you drive like that. If you kill someone after drinking, it should be murder. Running away from the killing scene is like inhuman. I think making an example of someone like Salman will help make others relalize that such crimes are not forgivable. Allah has his ways with justice, but he does a good job when he takes his course. It not by consiance, punishment is best given like this. 10 years is still less, but somehow, it is what he will get. He deserves harsher punishment. Not to forget, he used a gun and pulled the trigger on an innocent animal which is already endangered. I hope Allah makes Salman feel what it is like to be killed rather than always kill others. - anwar - Pune
To those defending him : what about justice for the poor people who died, and their families? learn to treat everyone equally. - Imran - Mumbai

A Lilliput with zero intellect is made to believe that he is a hero and look at the way he walks ! He thinks he is supposed to act all the time. Life is no act but real and would do a lot of good if at least watched Amitab Bachan from close quarters. Learn some grace, good mannerisms from the lives of Amitab, Rajnikant, Nasiruddin Shah, Om Puri etal. At least read some poems when you get some free time and go to some art exhibitions and get a feel of what art, artistry and culture means - Madhavadas - Calicut
