Sanjay Dutt's furlough ends; to return to Yerwada jail

Mumbai: Actor Sanjay Dutt's furlough ends today. He was out of the jail since December 24, 2014 on a 14-day furlough and is expected to return to Yerwada jail on Thursday.

Addressing the media, Sanjay said that he had applied for a furlough extension on December 27, but did not receive a response from the concerned authority regarding the same.

Dutt’s frequent applications for parole have triggered controversies as many feel that the actor is enjoying the advantages of being an influential celebrity.

Dutt had been out on parole earlier too on a number of occasions and had sought extension for the same. The Bollywood actor was out once to treat his knee, on the other occasion to take care of his hospitalised wife and look after his twin toddlers.

The Supreme Court in a statement convicted the Bollywood actor for illegal possession of arms in connection with the 1993 Mumbai blasts case and had sentenced him to six years imprisonment.

Dutt had served 18 months in jail earlier and is now serving his remaining 42-month-jail-term in Pune’s Yerwada Jail.
