Scarlett Johansson declines invitation to Marine Corps Ball

London: Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson has rejected an invitation to the Marine Corps Ball with an apology and a bottle of champagne.

The 26-year-old star was invited in a video message sent to her by Sergeant Dustin L Williams who asked her to accompany him to the event in Albany, Georgia, on November 10.

But Johansson has turned down the offer due to her "prior commitments", reported Femalefirst.

"I feel incredibly honoured to have been invited to the Marine Corps Ball by Sgt Dustin L Williams. Not only does Sgt Williams deserve recognition for his bravery, selflessness and dedication to the United States and its people, but he also displays a cheeky talent for filmmaking.

"Sgt Williams, unfortunately, due to prior commitments, I will not be able to attend the ball with you this year but I am sending you a case of Moet and Chandon with gratitude. In my absence, I raise a glass to you and all the men and women of the US Marine Corps, past and present, in thanks for your continued commitment to preserving the safety of our nation," she said.

Other celebrities to join the league are Mila Kunis, who will accompany Sgt Scott Moore to an event in Greenville, North Carolina, on November 18, while her `Friends With Benefits` co-star Justin Timberlake has been asked to attend the gala in Washington DC on November 12 with Corporal Kelsey De Santis.
