The National award winning actor turns 63 today
Born on September 18, 1950, Shabana Azmi is one of the leading actors of parallel cinema. The actor is an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India.
Over the years, Shabana has done a variety of roles across different genres and her performances have earned a lot of critical acclaim. The actor won National Film Award for the Best Actress for her performances in 'Ankur', 'Arth', 'Khandhar', 'Paar' and 'Godmother'. Apart from these, the 'Arth' actor also won four Filmfare awards and several international honours.
Her memorable films include 'Nishant', 'Junoon', 'Susman', 'Masoom', 'Antarnaad', 'Shatranj Ke Khiladi', 'Genesis, Ek Din Achanak', 'Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai', 'Sparsh, Disha', 'Paar', 'Amar Akbar Anthony', 'Parvarish' among many others. Her notable Hollywood films include 'Madame Sousatzka' and 'City of Joy'. The actor will soon be seen in Abhinay Deo’s '24', the desi version of American series 24 which stars Anil Kapoor in the lead. Apart from the two, the television series will also feature Anupam Kher, Mandira Bedi, Tisca Chopra and Rahul Khanna in key roles.
Apart from films, Shabana Azmi is known for her social work too. She has been active in supporting child survival and fighting AIDS and injustice in real life. Initially, Shabana’s activism received a lot of flak but she soon proved her critics wrong as she used her celebrity status and emerged as a high-profile social activist.
