Shakira had nothing to do with Chavez gift: representative
London: Representatives of pop star Shakira have denied reports that she personally sent an autographed guitar to Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez.
The 34-year-old singer was in the news for presenting the controversial leader with a self-signed red electric guitar, but her representative has now claimed otherwise, reported a website.
The instrument was simply one of the six that the gig organisers had asked her to sign during her concert in Caracas in March.
The promoters had one guitar delivered to Chavez, and it was only on Monday that Shakira learned she had inadvertently sent the president a get well soon gift, said
However the `Hips Dont Lie` hitmaker`s representatives hope that "acts like this contribute to continue uniting the citizens" of Colombia and Venezuela.
The Colombian singer was due to meet Chavez during her Venezuelan tour, but their meeting was cancelled when the star`s flight was delayed.
Chavez, who is recovering from a knee injury, publicly thanked the pop star for the gift, which he believed was sent by her.
