Sofia Coppola, Thomas Mars tie the knot in Italy

Los Angeles: Screenwriter Sofia Coppola is said to have tied the knot with Thomas Mars in the town of Bernalda in Italy.

Francis Ford Coppola escorted the 40-year-old director down the aisle in the early evening, preceded by her older daughter, Ontheredcarpet.com reported. The bride wore a sheer lavender tulle dress designed especially for her by Azzedine Alaia, while the Phoenix vocalist wore a grey suit with a flower in his lapel. The esteemed guests at the low-key wedding included Johnny Depp and Talia Shire, the bride’s aunt – best known for her role in ‘The Godfather’ and as Sylvester Stallone’s girlfriend Adrian in ‘Rocky’. The wedding cake was a vanilla cake with Chantilly cream, decorated with white flowers, with almost 80 guests dining on a meal of cheeses, figs, salads, pasta, fish and pork, which was locally sourced. “Everything went well,” Ontheredcarpet.com quoted Bernalda’s mayor, Leonardo Chiruzzi as saying. “It was simple, calm, in the garden,” he added. According to People magazine, the duo are said to have met when Mars recorded a song with the band Air for her 1999 movie ‘The Virgin Suicides’. ANI
