London: Beatle fans could soon own a replica of the famous white Steinway piano that John Lennon presented to his wife Yoko Ono on her 38th birthday if they are willing to shell out 77,200 pounds.
Hundred replicas of the original were commissioned to commemorate the Beatles star’s 70th birthday last year.
Steinway commissioned the replicas of the 1971 piano, which still stands in Ono’s New York flat with an inscription on it that reads: ‘For Yoko, Happy Birthday, love John.’
The first ‘Imagine Series’ arrived at Steinway’s London showroom last week.
“It’s identical to the one Lennon bought for Yoko,” the Daily Mail quoted Steinway’s UK managing director, Glen Gough, as saying.
“Each will take a year to build and has a decal under the wires, based on a Lennon drawing,” he added.
The signature of the star has also been laser-engraved next to the keyboard, which certainly would ignite the level of Beatlemania.
