Mumbai: He hails from the family of superstars and is on the threshold of becoming one himself. Ranbir Kapoor, the great grandson of Prithvi Raj Kapoor, grandson of showman Raj Kapoor and son of Rishi Kapoor turned a year older today.
RK, who is named after his grandfather Ranbir Raj, has acting in his genes. His grand uncles - Shamsher Raj (Shammi Kapoor) and Balbir Raj (Shashi Kapoor) too were film stars of their times. His uncles - Randhir Kapoor and Rajeev Kapoor have also been quite popular. And his mother, Neetu Singh too was a successful actress.
Ranbir was launched as an actor by ace filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali in ‘Saawariya’ in 2007 alongside Sonam Kapoor. The film proved to be a super-dud at the Box Office but marked the emergence of the superstar material. He bagged the Filmfare award for best debut for the film and has since then delivered hits after hits.
His second film, ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’, also featuring Bipasha Basu, Minissha Lamba and Deepika Padukone, saw him play a casanova. The film tasted success at the Box Office and established Ranbir as a fine actor.
‘Wake Up Sid’ helped Ranbir redefine his talent. He proved his acting prowess as a spoilt brat in the film where he romanced a much older Konkana Sen Sharma.
Rajkumar Santoshi’s ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’ made Ranbir a dream boy of sorts. He looked naive and extremely cute in the film as he played a small town boy belonging to a humble family. He was paired opposite Katrina Kaif in the film and the jodi went on to become one of the best onscreen couples of all times.
‘Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year’ gave a boost to Ranbir’s blossoming career. It helped Ranbir strengthen his position in the industry and emerge as a rare talent.
Prakash Jha’s ‘Raajneeti’ gave Ranbir an opportunity to portray a mature character. The film had an ensemble cast including powerhouse of talent Ajay Devgn, Manoj Bajapayee and Nana Patekar. Yet Ranbir made his distinct presence felt.
‘Anjaana Anjaani’ alongside Priyanka Chopra was another film that saw Ranbir deliver a flawless performance.
With ‘Rockstar’, Ranbir passed the litmus test with élan. His dedication and deep commitment towards his work reflected in the film.
Anurag Basu’s ‘Barfi!’ only certified the fact that Ranbir is here to stay. He is an emerging superstar and has lots more to offer.
‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’ with Deepika turned out to be a blockbuster for Ranbir and his next ‘Besharam’ is slated to release this Wednesday.
The actor has plum projects - ‘Bombay Velvet’ and ‘Roy’ in the pipeline.
On the occasion of his 31st birth anniversary, here’s wishing the superstar in the making a very Happy Birthday.
