New York: Amid his divorce turmoil, Tom Cruise had one reason to celebrate his 50th birthday as Forbes named him the highest-paid actor in Hollywood over the past 12 months.
Cruise, who crossed the landmark age on Tuesday, has earned a whopping USD 75 million between May 2011-2012, putting him USD 38 million ahead of second-place finishers Leonardo DiCaprio and Adam Sandler, both who made an estimated USD 37 million during the same period.
Dwayne Johnson and Ben Stiller came third and fourth respectively, while the fifth place had three actors with USD 30 million earning - Johnny Depp, Will Smith and Sacha Baron Cohen.
Although 'Rock of Ages' was a box office disappointment, Cruise`s "Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol" netted USD 700 million worldwide, with the actor getting a piece of the profits, according to Forbes.
Cruise is currently dealing with wife Katie Holmes` shocking divorce filing on Thursday and he took an early-morning flight from a movie set in Iceland to California to spend his birthday at his marital home.
His enduring box office clout and growing fortune are sure to play a major factor in his divorce battle with Holmes, 33.
Cruise is presently worth an estimated USD 250 million, while Holmes is worth USD 25 million. Although the spouses of five years signed a prenuptial agreement, Holmes also requested a "suitable amount" of child support for daughter Suri, 6 - famous for her high-priced wardrobe.
