As per the Hindu calendar, today i.e April 8, 2016 happens to be the New Year in parts of the country. The festival is known by the name of Ugadi in Telugu and Kannada regions. The day falls on a different day every year as per the Hindu calendar, which is lunisolar calendar.
The commencement of the New Year as per Hindu calendar is celebrated across India but with different names perhaps. If Ugadi is celebrated in the South, then it is called Navreh in Jammu & Kashmir. It is known as Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra and Sajibu Cheiraoba in Manipur.
Here, are the timings of Ugadi pooja:
Pratipada Tithi Begins = 16:53 on 7th April, 2016
Pratipada Tithi Ends = 13:05 on 8th April, 2016
During Ugadi, everyone enjoys and happily welcomes the New Year. Special food items are prepared at home, known as the Ugadi Pachadi or Bevu Bella. It is made using raw mango, neem, tamarind and jaggery.
Here's wishing the readers a Happy Ugadi!
