US regrets Shah Rukh’s detention
New Delhi: The US has sent a letter to the Indian consulate and stated that it regretted detaining actor Shah Rukh Khan at the New York airport. The actor had arrived to the city to address the students of Yale University, where he was honoured as a Chubb fellow.
Khan, who was detained by the immigration authorities, was allowed to go only after his hosts intervened and took up the issue with the Department of Homeland Security in Washington, according to sources.
Meanwhile, Union Minister of External Affairs, SM Krishna, asked Nirupama Roy, the Indian envoy to the US, to take up the detention issue.
Krishna reacted strongly on the matter and stated, ‘First detention, then apology- can’t continue every time’.
