Mumbai: The alleged boyfriend of supermodel Viveka Babajee who committed suicide on Friday and blamed him in her note on Monday claimed he was just a good friend of the deceased and had nothing to do with her death. Apprehending arrest after police summoned him for questioning, stock broker Gautam moved a local court seeking anticipatory bail. The court directed him to appear before the police to record his statement. Principal Judge M L Tahaliyani asked him to report to Khar police station at 6 pm today and 9 am tomorrow. The judge deferred the hearing on the anticipatory bail plea of Gautam for tomorrow. Vora, who was untraceable since 37-year-old Viveka ended her life on Friday evening by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her residence in suburban Bandra, filed the anticipatory bail application at the sessions court this morning. He deposed before the Khar police at 6 pm as asked by the court. He told mediapersons in the court that he was innocent. “I am not the reason for her death,” he said. Gautam’s bail plea states that he had met her at a social gathering on April 10 this year and both were on touch through the website Facebook. He also claimed that Viveka had called him on the night of June 24, the day before she committed suicide. Gautam goes on to state that he went to Viveka’s residence where the latter appeared depressed and was smoking. They talked about her financial situation as well as relationships. “I asked her not to smoke and drink so much and left at around 9pm,” he has claimed. Viveka killed herself the next day. Police had recovered several letters addressed to Gautam during a search at her apartment. "You killed me Gautam," Viveka had jotted down in her diary, police said. Sources said Viveka and Gautam, who were seeing each other for the last few months, had an argument a day before the supermodel, a former Miss Mauritius, committed suicide. "We have summoned Gautam. The summons have been delivered at his Napean Sea Road residence in South Mumbai," a senior police officer said. "His questioning will help us unfold the mystery behind the suicide. Gautam has been referred to on several occasions in the model`s diary," the official said, adding the summons was delivered last night. A mobile phone, laptop, diary and a few letters addressed to Gautam Vora were among the various things that were recovered from her residence, police said. Police would decide whether or not a case of abetment could be made against Gautam after all the evidence is gathered and statements recorded. It is Viveka’s diary that the police are scrutinising for further leads. It has revealed entries like the following: “Why are you not able to understand me Gautam? Will I have to be reborn for you to understand me? Why you fight with me Gautam? Why can`t you give me even a small place in your life?” Her mortal remains were consigned to flames at Juhu crematorium today in the presence of friends from the fashion industry, her mother and sisters.
