Whitney Houston’s funeral to be held on Saturday

London: Whitney Houston’s funeral is to take place on Saturday at the New Hope Baptist Church in her home state of New Jersey.

The owner of the Whigham Funeral Home in Newark said that the funeral would take place in the church where the pop star first sang as a child, the Telegraph reported.

Houston, 48, rose from singing in a church choir to become one of the best-selling and most admired performers of her generation.

However, her success was eclipsed later in life by problems with drinking and drugs. She had a long history of addiction to alcohol, cocaine and marijuana, admitting so on television talk shows. She was in rehab as recently as May 2011.

Houston was found dead in the bathtub of her suite at a Beverly Hills hotel room Saturday on the eve of the music industry’s Grammy Awards.

Her body arrived in New Jersey on Monday night, amid reports that her doctors will face questions over how she obtained drugs found in her hotel room.

A plane owned by actor-producer Tyler Perry landed at an airport in Teterboro, New Jersey, where security was tight. A gold hearse left the airport and arrived just before midnight at the funeral home as a crowd of about 50 fans gathered outside.
