It is said that behind every successful man, there is a woman but it seems that behind every unsuccessful man, there are a number of women. This is exactly the case with Rahul Mahajan. The ‘reality TV’ celebrity has been in limelight for all the wrong reasons since he gained recognition for his on-screen and off-screen stunts with various ladies. His first encounter with media was when his father, the late BJP President, Pramod Mahajan was killed by his younger brother, late Pravin Mahajan in June, 2006. At that point of time, he was taken seriously by the BJP-party members, who felt that he would successfully follow his father’s footsteps. As a young man, Rahul had the potential to bring a new and fresh appeal to the BJP. But, exactly after one month of his father’s death, Rahul’s scandals came to the fore. He was hospitalized after a cocaine overdose. In that unpleasant incident, his father’s secretary also died. After he was discharged from hospital, he was arrested by the Delhi Police on charges of drug possession and consumption. Later after getting bail, Rahul decided to tie the knot with his childhood sweetheart, Shweta Singh, with whom he had studied flying in the US. He finally got married to Shweta in August 2006. But the couple was not destined for each other. Their marriage reached a high level of incompatibility within a span of a year. In fact, Shweta showed her bruised hands to media and complained of domestic violence. This led to their divorce in August 2008. Since then, Rahul Mahajan has been in news for one shocking reason or the other. Instead of making his career in politics, he took a shortcut to fame by participating in reality shows like ‘Chotte Miyan’, a children’s stand-up comedy reality show. Later, he agreed to be one of the inmates in the popular reality show, ‘Big Boss-2’. Here he scandalized the public through his indecent advances towards Payal Rohatgi. He was also seen making passes at Monica Bedi. Ironically, as a ‘reality TV personality’, Rahul Mahajan managed to create a niche for himself, especially in the hearts of girls. It was quite evident that girls liked the ‘Prince Charming’ persona of Rahul when he appeared in ‘Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayega’. And then, out of the 17 participants, Rahul exchanged wedding vows with Dimpy Mahajan, a Bengali model and actress on 6th March, 2010. Rahul Mahajan assured everybody in front of camera that he has found the perfect woman to spend the rest of his life. It was all so lovey-dovey when they took their first step in this new phase of their lives. But, the peculiar guy again landed in a soup. The highly publicized wedding reached the brink of break-up. Like his former wife, Shweta, Dimpy Ganguly also appeared in front of media and levelled charges of domestic violence against Rahul. ‘He dragged, kicked and punched me’, she said in her statement to media. Not only this, Rahul also tried to renew his affair with his former girlfriend, Payal Rohatgi. But, Rahul denied all allegations against him and finally the whole Rahul-Dimpy ‘drama’ ended after Dimpy’s father brokered peace and the couple visited Siddhivinayak Temple. Some call it a publicity stunt and others believe that Rahul is a notorious guy but surely, Rahul loves to stage dramas. We are waiting for the unemployed man to find another way to remain in the public eye in the coming days. It won’t be an exaggeration to call Rahul as our new ‘Drama-King’- elected by the media and supported by his own misdemeanors.
