Becks unveiled as new face for Brit supermarket giant

London: David Beckham has replaced Jamie Oliver as the new face of Sainsbury’s in a deal that is reportedly worth 1.5million pounds a year.

Beckham, 36, will front the supermarket’s TV ads as well as its Active Kids campaign and sponsorship of the 2012 Olympics.

The LA Galaxy midfielder said that he was “delighted” at the chance to promote healthy lifestyles.

“I know the difference leading a healthier and more active life can make to kids,” the Daily Star quoted Beckham as saying.

“I have been really impressed with the long-term commitment Sainsbury’s has made and I am looking forward to working with them to help UK kids have fun and become even more active,” he added.

The news of the footballer being the new face for the supermarket chain has sparked rumours that he is planning to move back with his family to Britain from Los Angeles.
