Bengali designer Agnimitra juggling Bollywood, Tollywood
Kolkata: From dressing up Mithun Chakraborty in the forthcoming Hindi film `Spaghetti 24X7` to designing for Raghuvir Yadav in the under production Bengali film `Aatta Aater Bongaon Local`, Agnimitra Paul has her hands full as a fashion designer.
Agnimitra, who had set up Sridevi`s personal wardrobe way back in 2001 at the beginning of her fashion career, has got a "very important offer from a young, familiar Bollywood director but talks are still at a very fluid stage."
"Let us rather dwell on my experience to work with dada (Mithun), Raghuvirji, Kay Kay which was a pleasurable experience," Agnimitra told PTI here.
"In Spaghetti 24x7, a film by young film maker Gourav Pandey with bar and discotheque as the background, dada (Mithun) essayes the role of a security guard. And my briefing was to dress him appropriately, the way a man of such profile is dressed.
"I have worked with Dada (Mithun) earlier in Pandey`s first film `Shukno Lanka` and `Don Muthuswami`, besides many other commercial ones starring him. Nowhere was the get-up larger-than-life," said Agnimitra.
Recalling her first meeting with Mithun in 2001 through film maker Shakti Samanta in Mumbai, Agnimitra said, "Since then he has remained my dada (elder brother). And he always wants to be attired simply, a ganjee complemented by a shirt. That is what I think Mithuda is, very down-to earth and stripped off any starry airs."
In `Aatta Aater Bongaon Local`, a film by Arindam Nandy based on the real life story of the murder of a young boy at the hand of his sister`s molesters, the Kolkata-based designer is fascinated about working with Raghuvir for the first time.
"He has a no-fuss air and followed my tips to turn up as a rickshaw puller, complete with a `gamchha` slung across one shoulder. You can`t make out that he is an actor from among the crowd of rickshaw pullers in rural Taki where the shooting took place."
"I saw how committed an actor Raghuvir was. He was paddling the rickshaw as if he has been doing the same job for years," she said.
Turning to her work in `Via Darjeeling`, she said, "It was a lot of fun to work with the whole cast - Kay Kay Menon, Sonali Kulkarni and Vinay Pathak.
"Both Kay Kay and Vinay were very natural and spontaneous about their style statements. And I found Sonali very receptive to my suggestions. The film may not have done too well at box office, but I believe my work was appreciated," she said.
Agnimitra enjoys good rapport with Sridevi and recalling their first meeting when she went to the actress` Mumbai residence, she said, "Sridevi liked my work specimens I began designing for her personal wardrobe."
"She also gave my first big break by recommending me for the film `Koi Mere Dil Se Pooche` in which I designed some costumes for Esha Deol."
The designer harbours the dream of designing for bigwigs like Amitabh Bachchan and Katrian Kaif.
"But I have one desire to design costumes for Amitabh Bachchan, Naseruddin Shaw, Nana (Patekar) and Katrina Kaif since I find all of them very versatile and elegant."
Among the directors Agnimitra said she would like to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Anurag Kashyap, Aparna Sen and Rituparno Ghosh.
